WHEN it comes to your hotel room, don’t settle for less.
Seasoned traveler McCartney Sullivan posted a video revealing the question she asks when checking into a hotel to ensure she gets a better stay.
“If there’s one thing I’ve learned in life, it’s to always ask for a free room upgrade,” Sullivan said.
At check-in, the travel expert said she asked the lady at the hotel reception for a room upgrade.
To get a free room upgrade, Sullivan said to ask the front desk, “Do you happen to have any free upgrades available?”
After checking with the hotel where she checked in, Sullivan claimed the woman behind the desk said, “Sure we can put you in the corner lake view suite.”
In her video, she showed off the suite, which had large windows that offered lots of natural light, a large bed, a couch, a large desk area, and of course, a lake view.
She didn’t even see the room she paid for and said, “I’m not quite sure what my room was supposed to look like before I got this room.”
“Ask and you will receive,” Sullivan said.
“It almost always works!”
According to Value Penguin, “If you just ask the hotel concierge, you can get a free hotel room upgrade.”
Value Penguin also said that mentioning you’re there for a birthday, anniversary, or other special occasion might give you a better chance of an upgrade.
They said it could also depend on how busy the hotel is that day. If it’s a slower day, you might have a better chance of getting an upgrade.
“Your success can depend on who you talk to, what their mood is that day, and how nicely you ask.”
