I’m a professional declutterer – my “3 Second Rule” makes cleaning up your house SO much easier

We’ve all gone through those phases of wanting to be the next Marie Kondo and decluttering our home.
If you’ve ever had a hard time minimizing your belongings and making those tricky calls between the keep and the donation bin, then you need this rule.

TikTok user Kayleen Kelly Organize has a simple rule you can use to tidy up your home with no regrets.
The rule involves you taking three seconds to look at an item and decide whether or not you want to keep it.
“If you hesitate for more than three seconds, then it’s an automatic hold.”
Kayleen enforces the time-saving rule because it gives you “no regrets” and prevents procrastination.

In her video, she explains the rule using coffee mugs as an example.
“First, go to the kitchen and collect every single coffee mug you own,” she began.
“And now we’re going to make a decision on each one. It’s either ‘yes, you keep it’ or ‘no, you can,'” Kayleen explained.
Kayleen’s hack aims to “take the pressure off” by encouraging decluttering while preventing any regrets about the process.
“If you’re not 100% ready to let it go, then it’s a goalkeeper,” she said.
TikTok users were inspired by the simplicity of Kayleen’s video.
One comment said, “We literally got rid of 90% of our coffee cups tonight!”
Another user also seemed motivated by Kayleen’s three-second rule, writing, “I’m going through your content and taking notes so I can start going through my stuff.”

However, some users wondered how they would deviate from items they grew to.
“What about us sentimental people who like to keep everything?”
