THEY may be making a comeback, but one podiatrist has insisted there’s nothing worse than wearing a pair of ballet flats when you’re out all day.
Two professionals from the Louise Reaney Clinic in Sheffield took to TikTok to reveal the “five things we wouldn’t do as podiatrists”.
First of all wear a closed shoe without socks.
“Putting your foot in a shoe without a sock every day is like wearing the same pair of socks day after day without washing them,” she explained.
The other podiatrist was next and shared her thoughts on the ballet flats that have graced the shelves of Primark and Zara.
“I wouldn’t wear ballet-style flats all day to go in,” she said.
“Occasionally they’re okay — I know they’re coming back in style — but they don’t give your feet much support.”
And don’t even think about a foot peeling mask.
“The moisturizing foot masks are very nice, but the exfoliating foot masks – I’ve seen too many people with very sore feet after using them,” sighed the first woman.
Number four was not letting anyone remove cuticles on toenails or fingernails.
“Your cuticle acts as a barrier at the bottom of your nail to prevent infection, so you need it,” the younger woman said.
And the last tip was not to grab a blade on your own foot.
“Your foot is far from your face and eyes and all sorts of damage can happen,” she concluded.
“And we’ve seen a lot of people do that and it wasn’t great.
“Use a file, use moisturizers, but don’t put a blade to your foot.”
People in the comments section were quick to weigh the advice, with one writing: “I used a foot mask once. Became more and more painful.
“I washed it off early but the feet were swollen and sore for a week afterwards.”
“Very helpful – thanks,” added another.
“Wearing ballet flats ruined my feet,” commented a third.
“I have to wear insoles in every pair of shoes now or my feet hurt… and then that hurts my knees.
