A SUPERMARKET employee so addicted to Pepsi that he downed 30 cans a day for two decades has been cured after being hypnotized.
Andy Currie, 41, drank a liter of the bubbly pop every morning and drank an additional nine liters a day.
He’s drunk an estimated 219,000 cans of Pepsi — and nearly 8,000kg of sugar, or the equivalent of seven million sugar cubes — since he first started drinking in his 20s.
Andy, from Bangor, North Wales, said: “I’ve always loved the taste of a cold Pepsi.
“I work nights, so I’ve always liked the sugar rush to keep me going. I used four or five two-liter bottles of Pepsi every day.
“Because I work at Tesco, I could buy it right after work and take it home.”
Andy, who is married to wife Sarah, 39, who volunteers at a garden centre, was spending £20 a day on Pepsi – which works out to around £7,000 a year.
He added: “It cost me a fortune to be honest. I could have bought a car for the same amount I spent on Pepsi every year.
“I just had to have it, as soon as I woke up I would go to the fridge, pour myself a tall glass of Pepsi and just get on with it all day.
“I remember going to weddings and birthdays and while other people were having a glass of champagne, I was toasting people with a can of lemonade.”
Andy decided to take drastic action after he rose to 19 Stone and his doctors warned him he was at risk of becoming diabetic.
Through exercise and dieting, he managed to lose five pounds, but couldn’t stop drinking Pepsi.
He contacted London-based therapist and hypnotist David Kilmurry, who identified Woody with a preventable restrictive feeding disorder.
Amazingly, after just one online hypnotherapy session, Andy healed and was drinking water for the first time in two decades.
In just four weeks he dropped another stone and is remarkably healthier.
Andy said: “David met me online and hypnotized me for about 40 minutes.
“I don’t know what he said, but after that I just didn’t want to drink it anymore.
“I still have two cans of Pepsi in my fridge that I wanted before the session but didn’t have time.
“I haven’t touched her in a month and I don’t plan to. I prefer water now. My wife Sarah says my skin looks better and I have so much more energy.
“I now enjoy walking and Sarah and I plan to climb Mount Snowdon in the summer.”
David said: “I was appalled by Andy’s revelation that he was drinking 10 liters of Pepsi a day.
“It was by far the worst sugar addiction I’ve ever heard of.
“Andy has embraced the addiction, been overweight, anxious and was struggling to get his words out because he was so breathless.
“This type of addiction is very dangerous and puts tremendous pressure on your vital organs.
“Andy was pre-diabetic and had to change quickly before heart disease and potential pancreatic cancer caught up with him.
“It became a poison and a crutch for him. Since working with him, I enjoy seeing him drink water and healthy drinks.”
In 2018, we shared how a great-grandmother claimed she hadn’t had anything but Pepsi in 64 years and said she wouldn’t approach a glass of water even if she were dying of thirst.
Jackie Page, 77, drinks a can of soda every morning and can swallow up to four a day.
