And a professional lipreader has revealed the monarch’s words as she gazed at The Mall.
John Cassidy told The Mirror that Her Majesty appeared surprised after stepping out to hear a stirring rendition of God Save the Queen this afternoon.
As the national anthem ended, red, white and blue smoke billowed out over the crowd.
Then she turned to George and said with a beaming smile, “Ah, brilliant.

“I did not know…”
The Queen made a brief and sweet public comeback on the final day of her Jubilee weekend.
She was joined for the three-minute performance by Charles, Camilla and the Cambridges.
As the Brits sang the anthem below, she seemed deeply moved and briefly bit her lip as she gazed out at the crowd.
And an hour and a half after going back inside, Her Majesty released a statement saying she was “humiliated” by the support.
“When it comes to celebrating seventy years as Queen, there is no guide to follow. It’s really a first,” she said.
“But I am deeply impressed and deeply touched that so many people took to the streets to celebrate my platinum anniversary.
“While I may not have personally attended every event, my heart went out to you all; and I remain committed to serving you to the best of my ability, supported by my family.
“I was inspired by the kindness, joy and connection that has been so evident over the last few days and I hope this renewed sense of togetherness will be felt for many years to come.
It comes as…
“I sincerely thank you for your well wishes and for the role you all played in these happy celebrations.”
The monarch missed two days of celebrations.
After suffering some “inconvenience” on Thursday, the 96-year-old retired from Friday’s duty at St Paul’s Cathedral as well as the Epsom Derby yesterday.
But she made a surprise appearance tonight.
It comes after Brits and tourists cheered as the Queen appeared as a hologram inside the Gold State Coach during today’s Platinum Jubilee pageant.
Excited Britons waved at the monarch’s image as the 240-year-old horse-drawn carriage drove through the street.
Cheeky Prince Louis – who stole the show on Thursday’s balcony appearance – was spotted beaming as he saw his great-grandmother’s hologram.
The four-day extravaganza to mark the incredible 70th anniversary of the Queen’s reign was rounded off today with a grand anniversary lunch and the much-anticipated Platinum Jubilee Competition.
