A fashion blogger insists she’s found the perfect way to wash baseball caps – but her hack has proved controversial.
Kieu, who runs fashion blog Nori Bella, says her surprising laundry trick keeps hats clean and keeps them in shape.
“Lifehack!! Wash your baseball caps in the dishwasher!” Kieu wrote in a TikTok video that has garnered three million views.
“It keeps the shape of your hat!” She added.
In the short clip, she filmed herself loading the lid of an otherwise empty dishwasher with baseball caps, including those branded Boston Red Sox, Titleist and Southwest Airlines.
She added a few more before closing and turning on the dishwasher.
Remarkably, she didn’t wash the hats with dishes and let them run on their own cycle.
Kieu shared more details in the comments and recommended adding a regular dishwasher tablet to the load instead of laundry detergent.
“I think detergent can create too many bubbles,” she said.
She also warned not to use detergent with bleach or anything lemon or citrus scented – unless that’s what you want your hats to smell like.
While her hathack has inspired many viewers to try it for themselves, others said they were put off by it.
“I’m not comfortable doing laundry where I wash my dishes. But you boo,” wrote one commenter and received over 1,100 likes.
Another called it “the weirdest thing,” while a third insisted: “It’s not comfortable washing clothes in my dishwasher. Only dishes in my dishwasher. I’m not playing that!”
“This is why I have trust issues with ‘holiday’ rentals!! ffs!! WASHING MACHINE for clothes! It’s not called the dishwasher for nothing!” wrote another.
However, some explained that they have been doing this with their hats for years – and assumed that everyone else did as well.
“I’ve been doing this since the ’90s,” wrote one
Another asked, “Who doesn’t?!”
“My dad did it when I was growing up. a third commented.
