A LIFE hacker has revealed how you can make your flowers last longer by making your own flower food at home.
It only requires a few ingredients that you probably already have on hand.
In a video on social media, a woman named Allena shared the items you need to keep your flowers fresher longer.
In a clear vase filled with water, Allena added three things: sugar, fresh lemon juice, and bleach.
She then stirred the brew before placing her flowers in the vase.
People responded to the comments with additional details about the process and their opinions.
“Yes! Along with frequent water changes and the occasional stem trimming, my flowers last about three weeks,” one shared.
“Sis, you don’t need a lemon. I use a teaspoon of sugar and a teaspoon of bleach and they last two to three weeks each time,” wrote another.
Citing another solution, someone said, “I use Miracle-Gro Succulent Plant Food.”
“In my flower arranging class, I was told a teaspoon of sugar and a drop or two of bleach.”
“When bleach is added, it’s just a tiny bit!! I know why it helps, but it works. Also, remove any leaves that are in the water! You can keep the top ones.”
With some further advice, someone said, “Removing any greenery at the bottom of the stems and changing the water every two to three days will do the trick.”
“I’ve heard of bleach but never lemon juice! That’s amazing,” gushed one.
“I give one shot of vodka for every 16 ounces of water and they last up to two weeks too, but I change the water every four days,” shared another user.
