A GARDEN expert has shared a handy and affordable product that can cut your weeding time in half.
Pulling weeds can be very time consuming and tiring. While a hand weeder is useful, a stirrup hoe is far better, according to garden enthusiast Sebastian Compagnucci.
Since a stirrup hoe is only $25 at Home Depot, it’s definitely worth the investment, Compagnucci wrote in the New York Times.
The gardening tool uses a back and forth push-pull motion to quickly move through your yard and cut through weeds that have become tangled in your yard.
In an experiment, gardening expert Compagnucci found that pulling weeds with your hands took 15 minutes and 17 seconds, while the stirrup hoe took just 7 minutes and 16 seconds.
The stirrup hoe was not only faster, it also hurt my hands less.
If you’re worried about hand cramps, you can just use a hand hoe, but Compagnucci reported that it would still take longer than using a stirrup hoe.
In addition, you also do not have to bend down with a stirrup hoe, which can relieve back pain.
The bow hoe can be used in several soil types, even in denser soils.
Another advantage of this hoe is its ability to clear large areas and remove every bit of weed, including hard-to-reach roots.
Stirrup heels come in three different sizes: 3 ¼ inch (8 cm), 5 inch (12.5 cm) or 7 inch (17.75 cm).
Make sure you choose the right size for more precise weed collection without harming your healthy plants, Compagnucci recommends.
The steel blades of the stirrup hoe are durable for long-term use in the garden.
It is also lightweight, which helps with gardener fatigue.
Another way to kill pesky weeds is to make your own sprayable mix.
This mixture of white vinegar, salt and dish soap can save you money in the garden.
