I’m a former teenage mom – I don’t care if kids drop out of school and stay out all night, but paying the rent is non-negotiable

Looking back, we were in such a rush to grow up that we never really appreciated the perks of being teenagers—not having to pay rent or worry about grocery stores.
But for TikTok mom Kat Clark, these real-world chores are something she teaches her kids at a very young age.

In a viral video that has garnered over 410,000 “likes,” the former teenage mum listed the seven rules her daughters – ages 18 and 11 – must follow while living under her roof.
First, Kat said they need to keep the location tracking feature on their phones at all times.
She explained: “Yes, you must have your location turned on. shall I check him out? Probably not unless you’re running late.”
Additionally, Kat, who had her first baby when she was 17, says she expects her children to be as honest with them as she is with them.

She continued, “I won’t bite their heads off, but I will do the same for them.
“So if they ask me a question about my past, I’ll be 100 percent honest with them and I won’t sugarcoat anything.”
Meanwhile, the mum said she has no problem with them going to parties – and once they’re 18 they can stay out as long as they like.
She continued: “The general rule of thumb is if you’re in ninth grade, you’ll be home by 9pm.
“If you’re in 10th grade, you’ll be home by 10 p.m. and so on. Once you’re 18, I really don’t care what time you come home.”
Additionally, Kat makes sure both of her daughters have a physical hobby so they’re “not on the phone 24/7.”
“You have to do sports. Whether it’s dancing, skating, surfing. Whatever, I don’t care,” she said. “You have to do something to move your body.

As for her education, the mother said she wouldn’t freak out if her girls wanted to quit.
She added: “I’m actually very laid back when it comes to school.
“But if my kids want to drop out, they need their business plan or a job.”
While Kat doesn’t forbid her girls from having boyfriends, she has made it clear that if she has any concerns, they “must listen” to her opinion.
Finally, the mother outlined her rental rules.
She said: “And yes, my kids will pay rent as soon as they turn 18 or get a job.
“I grew up in a strict household and snuck around. That’s why I’m super relaxed with my kids.”
Kat’s video has been viewed by almost three million people – and fans have praised her ‘cool mom’ approach.
One replied: “I agree 100 percent. I had to pay rent when I got out and got a job, and I’m actually glad because I realized that life isn’t free.”
Another added: “I think the more freedom you give kids, the more they learn to appreciate what they make of it. Instead of wanting to be sneaky.”
Meanwhile, a third wrote: “All agreed except rent. You choose to bring them into this world and if they live with you, they shouldn’t pay rent, they are your children.”
