YOUR fashion choices can reveal your personality a lot more than you realize – and what shoes you choose is no exception.
From sky-high stilettos to the iconic, more comfortable Converse sneakers, the options for shoes are endless, and what you choose can have something to do with your personality.
Here Fabulous spoke to Emma Lightbown, a fashion genius who has been in the industry for years.
The London-based professional stylist has worked with a variety of big brands including GymShark, Asics and Irish designer Orla Kiely and knows all about shoes – especially since she owns 200 pairs.
“Shoes are very meaningful. […] Whether they are very practical or brave, they are a sign of a person’s personality.”
Whether it’s high-tops or low-tops, Converse is a classic that never goes out of style.
If you’re a fan of this iconic shoe that can be dressed up as well as dressed down, you’re probably more adaptable.
“To me that means that the person has many different sides of their personality.
“You can do a lot of things, you’re quite a busy person in general.
“They like to be stylish, but they also like to be very practical – and Converse are great for that.”
Despite the common misconception that those who confidently rock sky-high Louboutins or Jimmy Choos every day are materialists and gold diggers, Emma disagreed.

“If you’re an everyday stiletto person, you’re trying very hard to get a very clear message out there about yourself.
“It’s one of power, quite authoritative, they can be quite sexy.
“They liked to be looked at, you know, give them attention.
“She’s strong, confident.”
Although a fashion genius recently claimed that comfy flip-flops look cheesy both in town and on the beach, for many they’re still a staple.
If you’re one of those people who can’t imagine getting through the summer without these, then you’re totally relaxed.
“They’re not too stressed out or upset about fashion.
“They are very happy to just put their flip-flops on in the morning – it’s very easy.
”The complete contrast of a stiletto strap.”
From summer festivals to the harsh winter, the chunky Doc Martens are a must-have for many.
While the brand and style is certainly not for everyone, there’s no denying that the boots will never go out of style.
According to Emma, if you own a pair of these, your personality tends to be more rebellious.
“Kind of the one who says, ‘No, I won’t wear your summer shoes — I’ll wear my Docs rain or shine’.”
A little fashion tip for those who want to buy Docs but are afraid of painful blisters trying to pop them in, Emma said, is to buy this Pre-Loved.
Somewhere between stilettos and sandals are wedges – a firm favorite for Kate Middleton.
“They want to try the trends, they want to feel a part… But they’re not as committed as a stiletto wearer.”
Regarding the character, Emma said they are someone who is friendly and likes to get involved in different activities.
A chic yet comfortable pair of loafers is a must-have for many who seek elegance—and much like shoe style, it also shows their status.
“They’re pretty classy… It’s kind of a preppy Sloane Square shoe.
“They give off this handsome money vibe.”
Perfect with virtually any smart-casual outfit, you can never go wrong with a pair of basic white sneakers.
According to Emma, that can mean a couple of things – you’re either very trendy, athletic, or both.
But not only the shoes themselves can tell a lot about people, but also their condition.
If yours are immaculately white and sparkling as new, you’re probably a fashionista following the latest runway news.
If they’re more worn, you’re more of an active sports bunny who runs all day.
