WHEN it comes to dressing for a wedding, everyone knows the main rule: never wear white.
However, according to fashion experts, there are some more guidelines you should follow.
Instagram user Mei Yap shared six looks you shouldn’t wear to a wedding.
My first no-go look on the wedding day is any outfit that contains a lot of white.
She advised her followers to avoid any dress that contains over 30 percent or more of its surface area white.
The fashion expert also suggested avoiding neutral colors in your look.
Mei recommended staying away from light pastels like baby blue and beige tones.
She explained: “My mother wore a white floral dress to my wedding. She let me run it and I was fine with that at the time, but now looking at the photos I’m a bit upset about it.”
On the other end of the color spectrum, Mei advised viewers to avoid dark colors, especially black, when attending a wedding.
This should go without saying as black is associated with funerals and as weddings are joyous occasions there is no need to cast a shadow over the day’s events.
The Instagrammer also urged her followers not to dress too business-like to a wedding.
Business attire is somehow too formal and not elegant enough and overall not appropriate for the day.
Likewise, you should avoid showing too much skin with your outfit as this is not an appropriate occasion.
Many weddings take place with a religious element, so wearing anything too revealing is not only inappropriate, but could also be seen as disrespectful.
“You never know if they have relatives who might be offended,” Mei told viewers.
Finally, white isn’t the only color on the no-go list when it comes to weddings.
“In many cultures, red is reserved for the bride. Still, bright red colors like this draw a lot of attention,” Mei explained.
