A cleaning expert named Kami Larae, known on TikTok as @kami.larea, said there are 10 things you should do every week to keep your home allergy-free.

WASH YOUR BEDDING

Though time-consuming and a bit tedious, you should wash your linens more often than you think.

“Most of us spend over 50 hours in bed every week.

“Sweat, oil, and dead skin build up in your sheets, which can lead to breakouts, eczema, and allergies.”

She advised washing the sheets with hot water weekly to kill the germs.

THE REFRIGERATOR

Instead of stashing that old bag of lettuce in the fridge drawer, throw it away.

“Go through your fridge and throw out all the old groceries.

“Then, remove all containers from your fridge and give the shelves a thorough cleaning.”

COOKING AND CLEANING UP

As one of her favorite kitchen products, she loves the PowerPaste Scrubber, available from Target for $9.99.

“It really makes everything shiny and new.

“Stale foods that have been left hanging for long periods of time can affect the flavor of your food,” she said, adding that you should scrub weekly.

COFFEE MACHINE

Many of us think that just quickly rinsing out the coffee maker we use every day is enough, but Kami said that’s not the case.

“Bacteria can grow and harm your health.

“It’s important that this stuff doesn’t build up in your devices over time.”

Be sure to wash it thoroughly every week.

BATHROOM

Next she went to the bathrooms.

“We’re going to clean them really hard.

“I wipe the shower, tub, shower and toilet areas and sanitize as needed.”

DUST THE FURNITURE

Many of us sneeze at the sight of a little dust, so it’s important to get rid of that buildup as best you can.

“But don’t just fling the particles around the room.

“We want to clean it really well to get rid of those dead skin cells,” she said while wiping down with a disinfectant after using a feather duster.

TOWELS

Towels are used very frequently, so Kami said don’t forget to clean them.

“Make sure you replace new towels in your guest bathroom.”

Hair dryer FILTERS

Like coffee makers, we often forget to clean our hair dryer filters.

“It collects a lot of dust, makeup and dead skin. You don’t want that stuff shooting you in the face.”

MAKEUP BRUSHES

Staying with beauty products, Kami addressed your makeup brushes.

“Ladies, wash your makeup brushes. All that leftover makeup is a breeding ground for bacteria that can lead to breakouts.

“You should never have a bad smell on your brushes, and if you do, you’ve waited too long.”

FLOORS

Finally, she said you should make sure your floors are clean.

“Floors, especially carpets, should be vacuumed at least once a week – especially if you have pets.
