A PROFESSIONAL cook says there are three kitchen appliances she uses all the time that home cooks may not know they need.
Chef Kelly Scott, who trained at the Culinary Institute of America, says one of her “unexpected” tools is a “workhorse” in her kitchen — and another makes cleanup a breeze.
“Here are the three unexpected kitchen gadgets I use the most as a chef — and which you should use, too,” she says in a viral TikTok video that has racked up nearly 100,000 views.
“First a kitchen scraper. This is a workhorse in my kitchen. It helps pick up all the groceries super easily,” she says.
The chef demonstrates by scraping diced onions off a cutting board to place in a bowl.
Bench scrapers are inexpensive kitchen additions, with quality stainless steel options selling for around $10 — and bargain-friendly bench scrapers are available for even less.
In the comments, she said that having one is just as important as having a good knife.
Her second favorite tool is a microplane grater and a zester.
“It’s great for crushing garlic [and] Ginger, shred things, peel things, shred cheese. It’s great,” she says.
Here, too, it shows itself when rubbing garlic cloves.
Her third port of call is a “garbage bowl” — in her case, a metal mixing bowl that she uses to clean up.
She says this can be kept on the countertop for easy disposal of things like food skins and eggshells, saving you trips to the bin.
The cooking shows called this a “game changer” and said it “savers SO much time.”
Avid viewers are grateful for their suggestions, and some agree that they constantly use their table scrapers and microplane graters.
Some have also called the trash bowl trick “brilliant” and “a must-do,” with some adding that it’s a great way to collect waste for composting.
