I’m a car expert – there’s an easier way to use your turn signal that’s often overlooked

Most drivers repeatedly pull their turn signal up or down until the lever is in a locked position.

But there’s an easier way to show which direction you’re headed.

The next time it is safe to change lanes, try pulling the turn signal lever with light force.

Applying Light Force allows your turn signal to activate for a few flashes before automatically turning off, reports Jalopnik.

These flashes correlate with the time it takes to make a safe lane change – just do a head check before turning.

While head checks are always a good idea, they’re especially helpful when using this vehicle hack.

A driver can flash his turn signal a few times, but if there is not enough space, miscommunication can cause an accident when the turn signal turns off.

A quick mirror and blind spot check will make sure you’re in the clear.

If you are unsure what “light” force means for your model, cars have resistance points in their turn signal design so you know how hard you are pulling on the turn signal.

BMW refers to this handy driving feature as triple turn signals — but most cars come with this feature, reports Jalopnik.

True to its name, the BMW triple indicator flashes exactly three times.

If you drive a used BMW and cannot access Triple Turn, a previous owner may have disabled the feature.

BMW vehicles allow their drivers to activate and deactivate the triple turn signal function in their vehicle’s central infotainment display.
