IF there are two types of cars right now, they are SUVs and electric cars.
With the deadline approaching for all new cars in the UK to be electric, a shift in preference towards more upright and practical SUVs and current fuel costs, it’s no surprise that electric SUVs are proving popular.
Not so long ago there wasn’t a huge range of electric cars in the UK, let alone specifically electric SUVs.
In the last five years alone, the number of electric models and electric vehicles in SUV form has grown tremendously, with options for a range of budgets.
A good family EV SUV needs to be comfortable and quiet to drive, practical on the inside, and have reasonable range and charging capabilities.
We’ve ridden them all and compiled a list of our favorites.
If you’re still thinking about Kia and thinking “meh”, then think again. The EV6’s styling is a cross between an SUV and a four-door coupe, but it’s certainly eye-catching.
The Kia EV6 looks good, is packed with tech and quality, and will go up to 328 miles on a full charge. Even a family and their luggage fit in without any problems.
It costs from £41,695.
2. Skoda Enyaq
As with Kia, the jokes about Skodas seem like a distant memory.
These days, they’re often smarter than the VWs they’re based on, and the Enyaq is one of Skoda’s best models.
It’s spacious and practical, driving up to 331 miles and priced from £32,785.
3. Tesla Model Y
It’s best not to joke about Teslas because the people who love them tend to get a little angry.
They’re great electric cars though – this Model Y is fit for a family in terms of space and can go up to 331 miles on a charge.
Starting at £55,990, it’s not exactly a bargain, but given the numbers already on UK roads and the long waits for deliveries, nobody seems particularly bothered.
4. Kia eNiro
Full Disclosure: A new Kia e-Niro is coming soon.
The new car’s specs aren’t significantly better than this current model, though, and there are some great deals on this model now that there’s a new kid on the market.
The e-Niro has a range of around 280 miles (the new car is around 300) and costs just under £33,000 on the road.
5.MG ZS EV
MG is a completely different car brand than it used to be.
Gone are the two-seater sports cars and in their place are some very decent electric cars – for the price.
The company’s 5 Series estate is great, as is this ZS EV SUV, which offers up to 273 miles of range for a sub-£30k shade. There’s an even cheaper version that costs £2000 less and has a shorter range too.
Inside you’ll find room for a family of four and a decent trunk to carry their belongings.
