‘Idiot’ supercar driver’s £250,000 Ferrari impounded for ridiculous reason

A FERRARI driver has been branded an ‘idiot’ after police impounded his supercar for lack of insurance.

German officials seized the Ferrari’s F8 Tributo, valued at more than £250,000, as it ran out of cover.

The vehicle was reportedly seized by police officers after a routine stop at traffic lights.

According to Mettmann police, the anonymous 32-year-old driver had not paid any of his monthly insurance premiums since January 2022.

In a Facebook post, police confirmed that the driver’s registration was revoked and his number plates invalidated on the spot.

The humiliated driver was then forced to pay for a tow truck to take his car home.

Social media users were let down by the antics of the drivers, who noted the irony that the owner could afford to buy the supercar but couldn’t pay for his insurance.

One simply wrote: “What an idiot.”

The news comes amid a spate of supercar speeding offenses as German cops battle the deadly world of ‘speed tourism’.

Shocking images show the smoldering wreckage of glam engines and even buses crashing into each other at top speeds, while Germany’s motorway network makes Britain’s 70-mile limit look calm.

One horror clip shows a driver turning off a motorway while zooming along at 205mph in a Lamborghini Huracán – which retails for more than £164,400.

Pictures show the expensive sports car reduced to a burnt pile of rubble after speeding off the motorway.

In another incident, German reality TV star Julia Jasmin Rühle was seriously injured after crashing into the median barrier on the A11 Autobahn in the Barnim district after losing control of her supercar.

Police said the car crashed into the barrier at such a speed that it was completely destroyed in last summer’s incident.

And just this month a tycoon who sparked fury by driving his Bugatti supercar at 400km/h on a German autobahn dodged jail for lack of evidence.

More than 10 million people watched a clip of Czech investment chief Radim Passer, 58, speeding 400 km/h on the A2 motorway in July last year.
