Have you ever been excited to reach into a hot sausage roll, only to get it and find it’s only lukewarm or even cold?
Well, it turns out you’re not alone, but according to a Gregg associate, there’s a reason they’re not always hot.
Gregg’s co-worker Isabelle posted on TikTok explaining why the delicious pastry could be cool if you can get your hands on it.
She confessed that customers always come into the store and ask why the sausage rolls and pies aren’t hot.
She said: “So often people come in and they’re like, ‘Can you heat our food? Why isn’t it hot?’
“Basically, we don’t pay a hot tax on any of the morsels,” she explained.
According to the worker, this means that when you buy groceries like a ham and cheese baguette, you pay extra for reheating, but not for the casseroles.
She continued, “It’s just that you’re lucky if you come in and if they’re popular that day and constantly go out whether they’re hot or not.
“They don’t really sell hot, they can be any temperature and still be sold.
“So often people come in and ask for their food to be reheated, we can’t do that.”
But that doesn’t mean that you get a sausage roll lying around all day, Isabelle adds, that “open cheeks” only stay out for two hours.
“Closed casseroles”, on the other hand, stay outside for four hours, so they’re not hot either, they’re fresh!
Viewers of the clip marveled at the simple reason, one quipped, “You’re doing the Lord’s work.”
Others didn’t mind the temperature, “I always think Gregg’s is colder,” one quipped.
