A COUPLE with takeaways and Pepsi addiction were in shock as experts revealed how they saved a staggering £8,300 to pay off their debt.
Amanda and Charlotte from Norfolk appeared on Channel 4’s Secretspenders in a desperate plea for help from the experts.
Charlotte drinks 16 liters of Pepsi every week and the couple spends £4,800 a year on takeaways.
Amanda revealed how her cleaning business took a backseat after injuring her hand, which left her unable to work and the couple had to rely on Charlotte’s salary.
Her monthly income went from £3,000 to £800 – but that didn’t stop her reaching for food apps when an exhausted Charlotte came home from work.
Amanda said: “Charlotte is a take-home fiend, it’s difficult for her because I had a hysterectomy last year and when I was recovering I broke my wrist.
“So Charlotte has been doing everything for four or five months.
“When she’s done with work in the evening, she’s just finished and says, ‘We’ll just get some takeout.’
“Sometimes we get three takeaways in one day. This can be done four or five times a week.
“Charlotte can cook, she just doesn’t want to.
“We have nothing left at the end of each month and sometimes less than nothing.
“I’d really like to stop spending that kind of money because I’m dying to move back to Brighton.”
The couple estimate they need to save around £3,000 for the move but also have nearly £6,000 worth of debt – almost triple the average national household debt.
Thankfully, experts were on hand to help analyze her finances.

Host Anita Rani told the shocked couple: “In a year you could save £8,384.”
Breaking down the amount, finance experts said: “Reducing takeaways from £400 to £100 a month will save £3,600.
“With a further £1,920 saved by Amanda agreeing to use the Sodastream, she is reducing her spending on bottled fizzy drinks from £240 to £80 a month.
“Amazon and Spotify canceling brings in £216 and £960 finally saved by switching to sim only phone plans.”
Other savings include £600 by halving their Amazon spend from £100 to £50 a month and £20 by canceling online courses.
They could also add phones to their home insurance instead of paying for separate insurance and it saves them £276.
Anita said: “This saves them the total of £8,384.”
Breaking down in tears, Amanda said, “That’s a crazy amount of money.”
Charlotte said, “You better delete that [food] apps then.”
The show later revealed a month later that the couple have ditched their takeout habits and will soon be moving to Brighton.
