VIRAL products can be good or bad, and TikTok has plenty of “next big thing” recommendations.
One influencer tried out the platform’s famous “hourglass swimsuit” and was shocked by two things: its effectiveness and its price.
Hope Allen tried out the swimwear on her YouTube channel, Hope Scope, where she frequently reviews viral products for her 1.89 million followers.
Allen had seen dozens of the “hourglass swimsuit” videos on her timeline, which showed women donning the swimsuit and then lacing up the back to create an hourglass silhouette.
“When I first started watching these videos, I was like, ‘This is too good to be true,'” Allen said. After seeing the swimsuit on a variety of body types, she decided to test it out for herself.
The swimsuit from TA3 Swim is a super shaping one-piece with corset ties at the back.
“I wasn’t prepared for the price of those swimsuits,” Allen said, joking that she was “crying, screaming, throwing up.”
The swimwear retails for $178 and comes in a variety of colors and styles, but all include laces and slimming panels.
“Are you ready for the most expensive one-piece swimsuit?” Allen asked as she unwrapped the bathing suit.
The first thing she did was examine the one-piece to find out what gave the fabric its “waist snap”.
“It’s got this tight mesh panel that stretches all the way down the middle,” she said.
She turned the swimsuit inside out and held up the fabric for the camera. “It tightens the whole section of fabric,” she added.
Standing behind a partition to get dressed, Allen found the swimsuit a little difficult to pull on – a sign that the cinch skills would be on full display.
She was pleased with the plunging neckline and the way it looked from the back.
“It’s surprisingly quite complete in the back,” she said. “I already love it.”
Then it was time for the “moment of truth”.
Allen tightened the laces of the swimsuit and the suit visibly shaped her waist on camera.
“I have a feeling the string is going to snap,” Allen said. When she finally got the swimsuit tight and tied, she looked at the before and after pictures.
“I feel like the difference isn’t as noticeable as in some of the videos I’ve seen,” she said.
But she loved how she looked in it. “It’s just a really well-made swimsuit,” Allen said. “I’ll definitely wear this.”
“I’m really, really confident, and I can’t say that about all the swimsuits I own,” she added, cementing her review of the viral swimsuit as positive.
