A mother-of-three has confessed to apologizing daily to her daughter for giving her a strange name.
Samantha Anderson from the USA confessed that the name she gave to her eldest daughter made her life difficult.
The mum took to Quora and asked what others thought of parents giving their kids weird names – and admitted she was guilty.
She said: “I did it. Occasionally I tell my daughter I’m sorry. I wasn’t trying to make it harder for her, really.”
The mother then shared the names of her three children and the reasons why, while admitting she shouldn’t be allowed to name people.
Cairo Persephone, her eldest daughter, Alexander Hale, her only son, and her youngest daughter, Aria Valyrie.
The mother confessed she was 18 when she became pregnant with her oldest and thought it would be a good idea to name her after one of the many romance novels she had read.
The main female character was named Persephone and her name was Sepha, Samantha explained.
She added: “Persephone is the Greek goddess of spring and rebirth and yes, the queen of death, but I mean you can’t escape that, so better to rule it, right?
“Besides, the name is just so pretty. That should be her name. Everyone hated him!”
Instead of giving up the name, she decided to use it as her daughter’s middle name, with her given name being Cairo.
While the mother thought it would be a much easier name to pronounce, her daughter constantly struggled with it.
Samantha adds, “I didn’t think everyone would think Cairo was a boy’s name. I didn’t think people would mispronounce it CONSTANTLY.
“It’s Cairo. It’s a very well-known city in Egypt. It’s not Kayro like in corn syrup people! It’s not a curio or cheerio or churro!”
She said she still loves the name but didn’t realize how wrong it could be for her daughter.
Samantha explains that her son got off lightly with his name and that her youngest daughter, like her first daughter, was named after a fictional character.
“We LOVE Game of Thrones and one of our favorite characters is Arya Stark,” she explained.
The middle name was a compromise after her husband wanted the name Valkyrie but went with Valyrie.
And many people shared their thoughts on parents giving their children unique names.
One wrote: “Parents who give their kids baby names or hippie-style made-up names because it seems cute to a young child don’t think about the future when their kids go to school and Mickie inevitably gets corrected to Michael and ‘ Peaches frou frou’ just sounds stupid; or when the kid grows up and needs to keep a job.”
Another added: “I think parents are really stupid.
