I am a royal cook and this is how the queen secretly told us what she wanted to eat

WHILE the Queen is known for having a surprisingly unfussy taste in food, she’s been known to eat her Tupperware cereal, but Her Majesty knows what she likes.

The monarch, who celebrates her platinum anniversary on Friday, apparently had a very subtle way of letting royal chefs know what she wanted to eat – all in encrypted form.

Speaking exclusively to Coffee Friend, chef Darren McGrady revealed the Queen’s favorite meal was afternoon tea, which she would enjoy anywhere in the world.

And while the chefs generally decided what went on the menu, Her Maj had an opportunity to make her own suggestions.

McGrady explains: “For afternoon tea, the chefs suggested sandwiches and scones – we didn’t tell the Queen what she had because we knew what a lot of her favorite cakes were, but the other cakes, the cupcakes, changed every day.

“Again we tried to dress up our favorites and occasionally she crossed something out.

“If she had said Prince William was coming to afternoon tea, she knew her grandson loved chocolate chip cookie cake so she would have written that instead and put a number two. That told us there were two for tea.”

The chef went on to say that while she can be choosy, the Queen’s taste is decidedly frugal when it comes to food.

He added: “The only thing that can be said about the Queen is that she is very frugal.

“It was one of the things that really surprised me, moving from the Savoy to Buckingham Palace, I thought every day would be smoked salmon, foie gras, caviar, but no.

The Queen has reigned for more than 70 years, making her the longest-serving British monarch. But what else do we know about them?

“The Queen is very, very frugal, and there are simple and basic foods. That comes from her early years growing up during the war.”

Professional chef Darren worked in the royal kitchen for 15 years, preparing meals for the Queen, Prince Harry, Prince William and Princess Diana during his time at Buckingham Palace.

Darren also shared that the Queen didn’t like pizza and not a single pizza was served during his entire 15 years at the palace.

The monarch’s meals are healthy, low-carb affairs, usually grilled fish or chicken with two different vegetables or a large bowl of salad.
