Seeing your baby take shape on prenatal scans is one of the joys of becoming a parent.
But one mum was horrified to see a “demon child” appear on screen.
Jade Boyland had hoped for a traditional shot of her baby’s side profile to share with friends and family during her 20-week scan.
But the mother was horrified to spot a tiny, stooped figure with huge eyes and long, claw-like fingers – looking more like the Salad Fingers cartoon.
The 28-year-old from Chard, Somerset, said the sonographer burst out laughing at the bizarre image and then quickly explained that everything seemed fine.
Health care assistant Jade called Lydia Elwood, now seven, her “demon child” and jokes that her “sassy” personality matches the nickname.
Jade shared her baby scan on a Facebook page and strangers were quick to connect with the creepy cartoon character.
Jade recalls, “She looked like Salad Fingers [with] big eyes and long fingers.
“The woman who did the scan started laughing. At first it scared me, I didn’t know if it was normal.
“I asked ‘what is that?’ because it doesn’t look right. She only explained that she was outward looking, so I called her ‘the demon child’.
“She was facing outward the whole time, we couldn’t get her to turn around.
“I tried to get her to move by getting up and going to pee but nothing worked, she wouldn’t move.
“I was scared at first, but then I found it funny. Friends and family laughed when they saw the scan. I don’t think many have seen one like this.
“I also saw comments online that the scan looked like lettuce fingers.”
Jade had the 20 week scan in 2014 and Lydia was born months later via caesarean section, a perfectly healthy baby.
But Jade, who is currently 32 weeks pregnant with her third child, said she spent a few months frantically thinking about what she would look like when she was born.
Jade, who is also mum to five-year-old George Elwood, said: “This was my first baby, I was pretty excited to go for the scan.
“I was hoping to see a normal scan – the side profile – the normal ones people get.
“There were no more scans after that so I wasn’t sure how she would come out.
“I had a cesarean section and when she was delivered to me I examined her.
“I’ve been worried all the time [pregnancy] what she would look like, but she was fine when she came out. She was absolutely perfect.”

Jade, whose partner is 33-year-old ground worker Rob Jarvis, said Lydia has lived up to her “demonic” appearance – by having a “sassy” personality.
Jade joked, “She’s kept her demonic personality, she’s the same – seven years of hell.
“Everyone who meets her says she’s the naughtiest kid in the world.
“The tantrums started at the age of one year. Everyone told me it was the terrible twos, but it never worked. That means I wouldn’t change her for the world.”
As Jade became pregnant with her second child, George, she admitted she was nervous about how he would look on the scan.
Jade said: “It made me a little nervous going to scans with George even though he was absolutely fine on his scan pics.
“So I finally got the pictures I wanted.”

Jade recently re-shared the snap and admitted, “Mine freaked me out”.
Other parents commented on Lydia’s scan, saying, “I’m having nightmares tonight” and “Omg are those claws?”
One mum commented: “This is NOT what you want to see!! So glad you didn’t give birth to this picture!”
While others said, “This reminds me of Salad Fingers” and “Rusttyyy spoonss!”
A concerned social media user asked Jade if her daughter was okay.
But Jade replied: “Yes, she is almost seven now.
