Hulu Freaknik Doc ‘The Wildest Party Never Told’ on the way

A new Hulu documentary is making social media go insane. Freaknik: The Wildest Party Never Told will focus on the HBCU Picnic, which became a no-holds-barred street festival in Atlanta in the 1990s. The mere mention of footage from the event making it onto TV screens has older Freaknik-goers worried about what kind of debauchery their relatives might see.
one”Freaknik Aunt‘ has already gone viral with her understandably concerned reaction to the Hulu doc below:
However, Freaknik’s popularity quickly became its downfall as civic groups in Atlanta began condemning the event, which had spiraled considerably out of control after transforming from a humble picnic to a full-blown riot. About Complex:
By the late 1990s, Freaknik had drawn criticism from various groups, including the Atlanta Committee for Black College Spring Break, which urged the local community to stop welcoming the festival.
“We cannot support events that involve lewd activities, sexual assault, violence against women and public safety concerns; Fire engines cannot reach victims and ambulances cannot reach hospitals in time,” the committee told the Associated Press in 1998.
Regardless of the controversy, Twitter started having a big day thinking about people seeing what their parents and relatives are up to in their younger years. You can see some of the reactions below:
Gen X: “Thank god we didn’t do our shit in front of social media and digital cameras. Furious! It can’t be us!”

I see Hulu is going to do a documentary on Freaknik. I bet there are a lot of Shook Ones praying they don’t cut to film. Now I’m glad I’m not old enough to have been a part of that scene. pic.twitter.com/AbJAjR0UgC
