YOUR iPhone is about to get a HUGE upgrade in just a few months — but a clever trick will get you the new features early.
The new iOS 16 update adds tons of clever tricks, including the ability to cancel and edit iMessages.
It also introduces a brand new lock screen that you can fully customize.
And it even supports widgets on the lock screen.
Unfortunately, iOS 16 probably won’t hit your iPhone until September and will launch alongside the iPhone 14.
But it is possible to join the iOS 16 beta and access all the new features before anyone else.
A beta is a trial version of software used by technology companies to test new features.
Right now, iOS 16 is in developer beta, so app makers can try it out before launch.
But in July, iOS 16 will go into public beta – so all die-hard Apple fans can join in.
That means you can have the new iOS for a few months before all your friends get it.
It’s not all sunshine and rainbows, however.
You definitely need to consider whether installing an iOS beta is right for you.
Ultimately, this is still test software, so you may encounter bugs – sometimes very serious.
So if you only have one iPhone, it can be frustrating to use a new iOS.
That said, the iOS public beta is usually pretty stable, so you shouldn’t find too many devastating issues.
You should also make sure that you have backed up all your data before installing a new iOS.
How to join the iOS 16 beta
To join the iOS beta, all you have to do is go to Apple’s website.
You can sign up for the iOS 16 beta here.
“New public betas for iOS 16, iPadOS 16, macOS Ventura, tvOS 16, HomePod software version 16, and watchOS 9 are coming soon,” Apple said.
“As a member of the Apple Beta Software Program, you can participate in shaping Apple software by testing pre-release versions and letting us know what you think.”
You’ll need to sign in and register your devices, which gives you a chance to test out the latest iOS 16 features once the public beta is live.
The beta will also include a special app called Feedback Assistant, which you can use to report any issues you find.
You need a valid Apple ID, and that’s it – there are no fees or compensation.
Installing the beta will also not affect your hardware warranty.
You can leave the beta at any time.
