Readers discuss the games they’re most looking forward to in the months and years to come, including God Of War and Sonic Frontiers.

The topic for this week’s hot topic was suggested by reader Campbell based on the fact that the The E3 announcement season is now over and most of the games for this year have now been announced.

While it’s a smaller selection than usual, there were plenty of 2022 games that people were looking forward to, although 2023 titles like Starfield and Zelda: Breath Of The Wild 2 seemed to get the most mentions.

A packed year
I think everyone knows it’s a pretty quiet looking Christmas (must love that silly Bayonetta 3 release date!), but I think there are some gems in it. I’d like to say that the game I’m most looking forward to is XCOM 3, as it’s pretty much the only game from the Nvidia leak yet to be confirmed.

However, while I wait, Midnight Suns will do very well as it appears to be a similar type of game and Firaxis are obviously well proficient at strategy games. I’m also interested in Mario + Rabbids Sparks Of Hope for similar reasons as the original was really good.

The Callisto Protocol also has my interest, although I’m a little concerned that it might be a bit too gory and charmless for me. There’s a reason Resident Evil is so popular, and that’s because it’s scary but also pretty silly so it doesn’t leave you depressed when you play it.

If we talk about the most anticipated game, regardless of the release date, it has to be Zelda: Breath Of The Wild 2. I have no idea when it will be out but I will be there on day zero when it does, no questions asked.

James Bond will return
There are a few games on the horizon that I’m looking forward to but I wasn’t sure if we could list all of the ones we’re looking forward to or just our most anticipated and that would be the 007 game from Io- interactive. Maybe this is foolish as we know very little about the game other than the developers. But the fact that Io-Interactive is on board gives me great hope that they can do a fantastic job considering how awesome the Hitman games have been.

I think it must be a very different game than Hitman, but there are some similarities in terms of gameplay that I could see in transitioning to a Bond game, and the style and detailing of the Hitman games are already quite appropriate .

Despite my excitement, however, there are some concerns as Io had a few duds venturing out of the Hitman realm with Kane & Lynch. I’m also concerned about her storytelling skills, which have never been more interesting in the Hitman games, but I think they need a lot of improvement for a Bond game. Hopefully they hired some new talent to improve that aspect so we can make another great Bond game.

CONDITIONS: Lists are boring, it’s better to talk about what interests you most like you did.

Adorable choice
Saints Row boat might still be interesting. Probably no game of the year material, maybe 7 or 8 out of 10, tops right? I was ready to write Sonic Frontiers off entirely after a rather scathing preview from GamesRadar, but recently I saw a video from a YouTuber who appears to specialize in Sonic content, claiming to have used the IGN footage, believed to have been made by the man from GamesRadar is from a previous build – and things could be even more promising. But probably not that much. It’s highly unlikely to give Elden Ring or even Lego Star Wars sleepless nights.

So that means Bayonetta 3. We know it’s coming just in time for Halloween and it’s looking a lot livelier than the last gameplay trailer. Unfortunately, Enzo has returned. Oh sweet Jesus. And Viola’s personality comes across as a little dull – typical serious beginner. Big Question: So this isn’t the original voice actress starring? And it still gives me prequel vibes in terms of the story, but Luca is in. And Jeanne wears her hair super long.

I really should get around to beating the second game, right?

Survival Horror
As a Moomins fan, I look forward to Snufkin: Melody Of Moominvalley more than any other game.

It’s basically Moomins: Breath Of The Wild in my mind, but I’m prepared for a bit of a disappointment. Still, it looks like it’s going to be a visually stunning adventure with lots of fanservice and Sigur Rós music.

Unfortunately I don’t like rhythm action sequences so I hope they are either well implemented or not too numerous.

Anyway, it’s coming out next year so I’ll just have to wait. Because how else could spring come again?

CONDITIONS: To our surprise, it turns out that this game actually exists and you didn’t just dream about it:

False alarm
I have to be honest, there are two games I’m most looking forward to. God Of War Ragnarök the first one, I loved the last one and I hope the new one isn’t like Horizon Forbidden West where there was nothing new and it could have been DLC.

The second game must be Modern Warfare 2. I love Infinity Ward and I love modern day Call of Duty. There were so many WW2 and future set games that I got bored and I know there were a lot of modern games but I just love Call Of Duty in that setting. Infinity Ward has to be the best in modern Call Of Duty, the only thing I’m not excited about is the next-gen prizes.

I mean the last gen prices are £70 so you’re talking at least £80 for the next gen and for me that’s a lot so me and my mate share the price and game sharing. I know what some will say about this, but I don’t pay more than £80 for a game that’s on the market for 12 months and then a new one comes out and the Battle Pass price is added. If they stop sharing games, I will stop gaming altogether, I will no longer be ripped off by greedy companies.

CONDITIONS: The next and last gen games will be sold in the same bundle for £70.

GT killer
What I’m most looking forward to is the next Forza, which I believe will be out next year.

I’m quite jealous of Gran Turismo 7 on the PlayStation 5 as it looks impressive to drive. I hope Forza Motorsport is as good, if not better. Last month’s Microsoft event had a preview and it looked great.

Decisions that are out of this world
For me, Bethesda’s Starfield is a game to look forward to. There will be plenty of good indie and other mainstream titles coming out over the next few years or so, most notably Elder Scrolls 6. But that sounds like a far-off dream right now. That being said, Starfield might just be a dream too!

Developed by developers who seem very passionate about what they do, the overall premise of the game is very hopeful indeed. I’m a huge Mass Effect and Dead Space fan and Starfield seems like an overwhelming affair like those titles.

The game world reminds me of a Fallout/Mass Effect type affair, the environments seem to show this through some post apocalyptic looking frontier style settlements and buildings. It’s hard to see how different planets are made and how flying to them works, plus the orbital approach and how much control you’ll have!

Hogwarts Legacy is another interesting title; it should be the ultimate Harry Potter game world if the positive speculations come true. Be sure to register me as a freshman.

The technology and advancements of the past few years still make me wonder what the limits are for developers to create their games given the cost and complexity of making these jewels. Either way, as always, it never gets boring, especially with Zelda: Breath Of The Wild 2 at some point. Wow indeed.
