Warning: The following article contains spoilers Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Kevin Feige is clearly a big one evil Dead Fan. From the beginning, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was conceived as a horror film, although original director Scott Derrickson couldn’t quite get the tone right. What they apparently wanted was something along the same lines as The bad deathso the easiest solution was to hire Sam Raimi and let him go nuts.
The result is essentially a $200 million tribute to Raimi’s beloved horror/comedy trilogy. The film has several scenes that are major allusions to moments Evil Death II as well as oodles of Raimi’s classic kinetic camerawork and (spoiler alert) Bruce Campbell beating the hell out of himself.
While some Marvel fans unfamiliar with Raimi’s work are stumped, evil Dead Fans are overjoyed. Here’s how they’re doing on social media:
Some go so far as to call it official evil death 4:
This begins what looks like a record year evil Dead fans. The actual sequel titled Evil Dead Rise, is currently in post-production and will be released on HBO Max later this year. Raimi is producing, with Lee Cronin directing, with the film following how the Deadites invade an urban setting and completely screw up a family reunion.
So while younger MCU fans can find Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness a bizarre watch, it is Catnip for old school horror fans. And if you’ve never seen Raimi’s splatter classic, grab it – you’ll be delighted.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is coming to cinemas now.
