According to reports in Italy, the Belgian is willing to take a pay cut to rejoin the club that sold him to the Blues for £97.5million last summer.
Speculation about the striker’s desire comes as Chelsea’s future was in turmoil after owner Roman Abramovich was hit by UK government sanctions for allegedly having ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin, who ordered the invasion of Ukraine last month.
However, the Telegraph claim Lukaku is angered by the reports in Italy about his future and feels that now more than ever at Chelsea, everyone should stick together.
The 28-year-old has not made the impact he had hoped for since returning to Stamford Bridge and has not scored a goal in the league this year.
Fighting for a starting spot against the likes of Timo Werner and Kai Havertz, Lukaku clearly upset his boss in December after he was Thomas Tuchel dumped him for giving an interview explaining his plans to return to Inter one day.
“I’m not happy with the situation, it’s normal,” Lukaku told Sky Sport Italia. “But I’m a worker and I can’t give up.
“I want to apologize to the Inter fans because I think the way I left should have been different.
“I really hope from the bottom of my heart to return to Inter, not at the end of my career but at a still good level to hopefully win more.”
Lukaku is under contract with Chelsea FC until the summer of 2026.
