Hooters customers say servers ignored them because of their age

A user on TikTok has gone viral after claiming she and her friends received poor service on Hooters because they were young.
In a video with over 962,000 views, TikTok user Kall (@kall.elizabeth) calls out Hooters and says no server wanted to set her group.
“When no waitress wants to take us because we’re a bunch of young adults but 3 of us are waiters ourselves and tip over $25 EVERY time,” she writes in the caption overlaid on the video.

The discourse around youth and tips has recently become popular on TikTok. For example, a video earlier this month that discussed the same topic went viral, with many users debating in the comments whether young people are better or worse tipsters than their older peers.
The actual data on this is a bit complicated, but in short, older people tend to tip more than younger people, even though the amount younger people tip is increasing each year. Furthermore, experts suspect that this may have less to do with age than with income, as older people tend to earn more than younger people.
In Kall’s case, many people took over the server side and shared their own stories of working in the industry.
“I used to be on a server and whenever I saw groups of prom teens I would tell the host not to put them in my space LOL,” claimed one user.
“This one time I took a table of 14 ‘young adults’, they all wanted separate checks and no one was tipping,” recalled another.
“I would never take teenagers,” said a third. “I’m sorry… but that’s wasted time and money.”
However, some users argued that the restaurant delayed them since they were a party of nine (in the comments, Kall noted that she heard a waiter say, “I don’t want a 9-top”).
While some users continued to support the server, others claimed that a table of 9 would simply mean more money for them. As such, they would love to be seated at such a table, young or not.
“I don’t get it because I’m taking all 9 tops whether I’m ‘ready’ or not,” explained one user. “That’s money.”
“Girlfriend gets in my way every day!!!” exclaimed a second. “I hate it when I hear my co-workers talk about not wanting to take a table because it’s like I get that.”
“I’m always ready for the big groups,” shared another user. “As if you want me to put tables together or you all just want a section I have for you.”
“I love young tables. You are so understanding,” claimed another TikToker.
