Honda to start making 250 cc or more engines at Gujarat factory, will make big bikes more affordable

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) has started global engine production from Vithalapur in Gujarat. The factory will produce engines over 250 cc or more to serve domestic and global demand. In a statement, Honda’s motobike said the line of dedicated engines will serve markets such as Thailand, the US, Canada, Europe, Japan, Australia and the Gulf countries, among others. A total of 50,000 engine units are planned for production in the first year of operation and the company will scale up production depending on market demand. Honda invested 135 crore for the same car.

Honda CB300R BS6 will likely be the first model to benefit from this announcement with the car currently being produced in the country.

The new facility will build world-class engines according to the company’s global manufacturing practices. The two-wheeler giant is following the same standardized processes as its global counterparts in terms of machining, engine assembly and manufacturing technology.

Speaking at the launch ceremony, Atsushi Ogata, MD, President & CEO, HMSI said, “As demand for mobility increases globally, Honda is expected to further expand its footprint. We export our products worldwide. With the adoption of BSVI standards in India, we are one step closer to achieving this vision.Building products on par with global manufacturing standards , this new expansion will allow HMSI to develop manufacturing capabilities to strengthen our manufacturing direction in India, for the world.”

The Honda factory is likely to build more powerful engines as well as make models like the CB500X more accessible.

Sharing more, Ichiro Shimokawa, Production Manager cum Director of HMSI said, “With the current global shutdown of engine supply, HMSI will raise its current export capacity to a new level both in terms of market and domestic market. market as well as global quality standards.As part of this expansion we are introducing special processes across different stages of production such as machining, engine assembly and advanced storage systems. nearly 50,000 engine units in the first year, our goal is to scale further according to market demand.”

One of the first engines likely to be produced will be Honda CB300R286 cc single cylinder engine. Honda recently announced that the BS6 version of the bike will be locally produced, and that will make for competitive pricing.
