Homestead man arrested in Key Largo street rage shooting, lawmakers say

KEY LARGO, Fla. – A 24-year-old man was arrested on Friday after being accused of shooting at another vehicle during a street riot in Key Largo, MPs say.

Baldemar Martinez of Homestead is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, firing a firearm from a vehicle, firing a firearm into an occupied transport and criminal mischief.

According to Monroe County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Adam Linhardt, a 30-year-old victim was driving south near Mile Marker 104 in a Key Largo school area around 8 a.m. when a problem arose with the suspect driver, who was later identified as Martinez has been identified.

Linhardt said Martinez got out of his vehicle and struck the victim’s vehicle multiple times and later smacked the mirror with his hand when both vehicles were moving again.

The victim told deputies Martinez then fired multiple shots at his vehicle, resulting in two flat tires.

Deputies said they later found Martinez at his place of work.

Authorities said he later confessed to deputies and the .40 caliber handgun was recovered.

Martinez was taken to a nearby jail.

A motive for the shooting remains unclear.
