The death toll in the July 4th parade massacre in Highland Park has risen to seven and the identities of six victims have been released.

Among the victims, who were named by the authorities on Tuesday afternoon, were both parents of a small child. Irina and Kevin McCarthy, 35 and 37, left behind their two-year-old son, Aiden, who was found wandering alone after the massacre.

Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek read the names of six victims aloud during a news conference Tuesday afternoon. She revealed the dead included Katherine Badlstein, 54, along with Steve Straus, 88; Jacquelyn Sundheim, 63, and Nicholas Toledo-Zaragoza, 78, who were previously named by media based on interviews.

All six victims were from Highland Park, with the exception of Toledo-Zaragoza, who was from Morelos, Mexico.

The coroner said a seventh victim died at a hospital outside of the county but did not name.

The death toll rose Tuesday after one of the 47 wounded died in a hospital.

Before the latest death, five people succumbed to their wounds at the scene and a sixth person died in a hospital on Monday.

The victims of the shooting ranged in age from eight to 85 years, according to doctors at the hospitals.

As of Tuesday afternoon, nine of the 39 injured at NorthShore University’s health care system remained there, facility spokesman Jim Anthony said. One person is in critical condition, four are stable and the rest are in good condition, he said. An eight-year-old boy was transferred to the University of Chicago’s Comer Children’s Hospital and 28 patients were discharged.

A neighbor of the McCarthys, Adrienne Rosenblatt, said she recognized Aiden in an online notification and informed his grandparents, who took him home from a police station.

“It’s just sad,” Rosenblatt said. ‘Are you calling him an orphan?’

A GoFundMe account set up for the boy reads: “At two years old, Aiden finds himself in an unthinkable position; growing up without his parents.

“Cared for by his loving family, Aiden will have a long road ahead of him to heal, find stability, and eventually navigate life as an orphan.

“He is surrounded by a community of friends and extended family who embrace him with love and make sure by any means he has everything he needs as he grows.”

News outlets reported that Toledo had recently moved back to Highland Park from Mexico to spend more time with his family. Apparently he was in a wheelchair between his son and a nephew when he was hit.

Sundheim worked as a teacher at the North Shore Congregation Israel Synagogue, coordinating events. Straus was a financial advisor and grandfather to four children.

Authorities arrested Robert “Bobby” Crimo III, 22, as a person of interest Monday night. Police officials said Tuesday he fired more than 70 shots from the roof of a business and then dressed like a woman to hide his tattoos and blend in with the crowd as he fled.

Mayor Nancy Rotering said charges could be filed against Crimo later Tuesday.
