BOSTON (WHDH) — Passengers said they were frustrated and scrambling for hotel rooms after more than 100 flights at Logan Airport were canceled Thursday due to storms elsewhere in the country.
“Hectic, hectic, unsatisfying,” said passenger Susan Fleury of her experience.
Though Boston experienced a mostly sunny June day, Massport officials said thunderstorms at other destinations were causing delays to flights at Logan. Numerous passengers were brought on board only to sit on the tarmac for hours and then disembark.
“I got here around 4am for a 6am flight and it was postponed and postponed and postponed,” passenger Lesa Yawn said. “Actually, I’ll book myself into the Hilton and hopefully get out tomorrow.”
More than 100 flights were canceled, according to tracking company Flightaware, and while passengers didn’t see any storms, they did see lengthy delays – prompting them to question airlines.
“When we look at the radar we don’t see weather patterns, we don’t see weather in the sky – is it really weather?” said Suzanne Ward, who was trying to tour abroad. “Our flight was canceled and we are on a tour, we are supposed to come to Prague and they didn’t do anything for us. We stood in line after line after line.”
While some people were able to rebook, the onslaught of stranded passengers meant the first available flight for some destinations wasn’t available until later this weekend.
“They wanted to get me a flight in 24 hours, that’s too late for me,” said passenger Scott Kahn.
