Heat warning issued for Sunday across the St. Louis area

ST. LOUIS — A heat advisory hits the St. Louis region on Sunday, with heat index readings expected to hit 100 for the first time this year.

Nearly 30 counties and municipalities in eastern Missouri are subject to the heat advisory, including St. Louis City, St. Louis County and most of the surrounding areas. The current consultation lasts on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Temperatures soar into the 90s on Sunday as humidity increases. If you plan to go outside, take some precautions and stay hydrated. Also, remember to wear light clothing and avoid strenuous activities to prevent an increased risk of heat-related illnesses.

Dangerous heat is also expected for much of the coming working week. Through Monday and Tuesday, the St. Louis area could see heat index readings of 105 to 110 degrees when the actual air temperature is around 100. Record temperatures are likely to be broken on both days.

On Wednesday temperatures will still be close to 100 degrees and heat indexes will likely still be dangerous. A few thunderstorms are possible on Wednesday late afternoon. Thursday and Friday will still be quite hot but the highs will fall into the lower half of the 90’s.
