Harry Kane has insisted the signings of Darwin Nunez and Erling Haaland will spur him on to win the Premier League Golden Boot next season.

Liverpool have agreed a first £64m deal with Benfica for striker Nunez, who scored 32 goals last season after champions Manchester City announced the £52.1m transfer of Haaland from Borussia Dortmund – the most-coveted goalscorer Europe – had completed.

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Kane’s Tottenham team-mate Heung-min Son shared the Golden Boot with 23 league goals but the three-time winner is ready for Nunez and Haaland’s challenge.

He said: “The fight for the Golden Boot is always tough, the league has been bringing out top strikers from all over the world for a number of years.

“Every season I’ve played it’s always been an uphill battle and you expect the top strikers to want to play in the Premier League and it shows with these signings that that will be the case.

“It helps me as a player to have good competition and hopefully improve and get better, so I’m definitely looking forward to the challenge.”

Nunez – who is due to undergo a medical – could eventually cost the Reds £85.5million with benefits and the Anfield club inked a six-year deal for the Uruguayan, paving the way for Sadio Mane to join Bayern Munich.

Liverpool have already turned down two offers from the Bundesliga champions for the 30-year-old and are holding out for a £40m transfer fee.

Haaland, meanwhile, scored 86 goals in 89 games in Germany before moving to England and when asked if he would try to emulate the Norwegian’s numbers, Kane replied: “I’m trying to focus on myself first.

“Every season I have things I want to achieve and goals I want to achieve and I try not to focus too much on other players in that aspect and things that I can’t control. But what I will do is keep working hard and try to improve.”
