The lawsuit was filed in 2017 by three women who allege that Google placed them at lower job ranks than similarly qualified male workers, denied them promotions or transfers to other teams, resulting in lower pay and barriers to career advancement, and violated California’s Equal Pay Act violated. The comparison includes approximately 15,500 former and current women employees who have worked at Google since September 2013.
“As a woman who has spent her entire career in the technology industry, I am optimistic that the actions Google has agreed to in this settlement will ensure more justice for women,” plaintiff Holly Pease said in a statement. “Google has been a leader in the technology industry since its inception. They also have the opportunity to take responsibility for ensuring the inclusion and equality of women in technology.”
Google confirmed the agreement when contacted on Sunday. While the tech giant did not admit to wrongdoing, a spokesman said: “We are absolutely committed to paying, hiring and grading all employees fairly and equally, and over the past nine years we have conducted a rigorous pay equity analysis to ensure salaries and bonuses and.” Stock awards are fair.”
A judge has yet to sign the agreement, with a hearing scheduled for June 21.
