Golf: Bryson DeChambeau becomes the latest star in the controversial LIV series

Bryson DeChambeau has signed up for the Saudi Arabia-sponsored LIV Golf Invitational Series.
The 28-year-old American will join Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson and Lee Westwood on the Breakaway tour, with the inaugural tournament taking place this week at the Centurion Club in St Albans.
DeChambeau, the 2020 The US Open winner will appear later this month at the second event of the series in Portland, Oregon, with almost £20m in prize money up for grabs.
His decision to join the Rebel Tour will result in a suspension from the PGA Tour, which confirmed Thursday that all members participating in LIV Golf events will be denied entry into their tournaments.
LIV Golf frontman Greg Norman was delighted to sign DeChambeau, saying, “Bryson DeChambeau is an exciting addition to LIV Golf’s supercharged style of play.
“He is passionate about the sport, innovative in his approach and committed to pushing the boundaries in the pursuit of excellence.
“He’s not afraid to think outside the box and supports our mission to do things differently to grow our game.
“The power and energy he brings to the course will provide additional energy to our competition in Portland and beyond.”
De Chambeau is likely to popularize LIV Golf due to his long hitting and nickname ‘mad scientist’.
After struggling to attract the game’s top stars, Norman has now signed eight big winners for his tour, with Patrick Reed and Bubba Watson also likely to join.
LIV Golf’s first event in Hertfordshire will be followed by seven more in the United States and Asia later this year.
