Gigs not to be missed in February in Sydney

February is packed with live music in Sydney, and there’s a fantastic mix of local talent and international headliners.

Legendary rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers visit them on their world tour, while Ed Sheeran returns before heading to North America.

If those big international superstars aren’t your thing, there are plenty of smaller gigs all over the city in different locations and at different prices.

Here’s a selection of our must-see gigs in February.

February 2nd and 4th, Accor Stadium

The Red Hot Chili Peppers return to Australia following the release of their 12th and 13th studio albums as part of their global stadium tour, celebrating the return of guitarist John Frusciante. The band will perform songs from popular albums such as calibration (1999) and by the way (2002) along with new albums like Boundless love.

The band will be joined by six-time Grammy-nominated rapper and singer Post Malone (real name Austin Richard Post), who will perform with them on all of the Australians’ shows.

2 February, Sydney Opera House

Jessica Mauboy will perform at World Pride events Blak & Deadly: The First Nations Gala Concert for World Pride at the Sydney Opera House with Deborah Cheetham AO and Casey Donovan.

The event, made by and for First Nations people, will feature Mauboy, who will later join Kylie Minogue and Charlie XCX at The Domain on February 24th Live and Proud: Sydney WorldPride Inaugural Concert.

St Jerome’s Laneway Festival

The six-city trans-Tasman concert returns to Sydney for the first time since 2020 with a blockbuster line-up that includes Haim, The Jungle Giants and Mallrat, among many others.

The 16+ Festival offers both General Admission and VIP tickets, but if the price is a bit steep there’s also a long list of sideshows from the likes of Girl in Red and Finneas.

6 February, Hordern Pavilion

American singer-songwriter and indie rock sensation Phoebe Bridgers returns to Australia for St Jerome’s Laneway Festival with a few side acts following the booming success of her 2020 album punisher.

Her melancholic love songs about heartbreak and healing have captured an international audience and the eyes and ears of other celebrities like Taylor Swift, who said the “vulnerability” the singer expresses gives her so much influence as an artist.

February 6, Metro Theater

Norwegian alt-pop artist Girl in Red (real name Marie Ulven Ringheim) returns to Sydney for the first time since 2019 after more than 1.85 billion streams.

The queer artist whose hits include serotonin and We fell in love in October will perform their debut album If I could take it easy in Sydney after mega performances at Coachella, Glastonbury and Lollapalooza.

Seventeen-time Grammy winner Sting returns to the Australian shore after nearly seven years for his My Songs Tour, which will feature famous hits from the singer’s career both as a solo artist and with The Police.

With hits like Roxanne, with every breath and message in a bottlethe 71-year-old English musician and actor is likely to wow Australian audiences with an accompanying rock ensemble.

Vengaboys

16 February, Big Top Luna Park Sydney

Nostalgia will be at work in the Luna Park big top when Dutch eurodance and pop group The Vengaboys return to Sydney for their 25th anniversary tour.

Featuring Cowboy Donnie, Captain Kim, PartyGirl D’Nice and SailorBoy Robin, the group will be the ultimate throwback experience and will feature familiar hits such as We like to party!, boom, boom, boom, boom and We’re going to Ibiza!

Empire of the Sun

21-22 February, Enmore Theater

Australian electronic duo Empire of the Sun (real names Luke Steele and Nick Littlemore) are set to take the stage at one of Sydney’s most popular venues for the couple’s first shows in Australia since 2017.

The Aria Award-winning duo are famous for their songs walking on a dream and Alive Returning after appearing on the international stage at events like Coachella and Korea’s Ultra Festival.

Ed Sheeran

24-25 February, Accor Stadium

International superstar turned busker Ed Sheeran is taking his + – ÷ X Tour (pronounced “The Mathematics Tour”) to Australia for a massive series of stadium shows, his first Down Under since 2018.

The English singer-songwriter, who found international success in 2011, will perform hits from his latest album and is expected to include songs such as The A Team and Lego house that catapulted his career more than a decade ago.

Julia Jacklin

25 February, Enmore Theatre

Australian singer-songwriter Julia Jacklin, who hails from the Blue Mountains, brings her folky tunes to Sydney after the release of her third album With pleasure.

For the singer’s first Australian shows with her full band since 2020, Jacklin returns home after a string of international shows and ahead of the 2023 APRA Awards, where her song is shortlisted for Song of the Year Lydia carries a cross.
