In that hilarious but slightly alarming way in which TV and film classics in the past eventually spill over into modern times, we’ve reportedly now reached the age of a Hanna-Barbera icon.

Today apparently marks the beginning of the life and times of one George Jetson, something fans are happy to embrace.

That’s right, Sunday July 31, 2022 is the day that legendary cartoon George is said to have graced the world (or should we say the universe?) with his presence — and flying cars aren’t quite the primary mode of transportation, as predicted in the 1960s.

Reporter and Twitter user Brendan Kerrigan announced the upcoming auspicious date on Thursday, drawing fans’ attention to George’s birthday.

“I don’t want to alarm anyone but someone is about to give birth to George Jetson,” he wrote on the social media platform, alongside a screenshot showing the character’s date of birth as July 31, 2022 on Wikipedia.

However, an unknown person has since rushed in to edit the page to read “c. 2022′.

While it’s a mystery how and why July 31 was introduced — and then removed — into the equation, we have at least some evidence from the TV show itself that George could have been a 2022 baby.

According to Gizmodo, there is an episode titled Test Pilot that aired in December 1962 in which George is told by a doctor that he “should live to be 150,” with the digital index operator at Spacely’s Space Sprockets replies, “I I have 110 good years ahead of me.’

It was widely reported at the time that the ABC network and the show’s promotional materials The Jetsons were set in the year 2062, exactly 100 years in the future, meaning that year would be George’s birth year.

Fans certainly hailed Sunday as the character’s birthday, with many flocking to Twitter to share birthday wishes.

“Happy Birthday to my hero George Jetson,” one posted, while another exclaimed, “Welcome to the world George Jetson!”

The Jetsons, revived in the 1980s after decades of airing their one season in Sunday morning reruns, came to the big screen with their own film in 1990.

But their latest adventure – The Jetsons & WWE: Robo-WrestleMania! — was released in 2017, and it specifically notes that Big Show, whose real name is Paul Wright, had been frozen in ice for 100 years prior to his encounter with the Jetsons, who themselves have not aged a day.

According to the AV Club, this suggests the theory that regardless of the current year, the family is always 100 years in the future, meaning a date or year of birth cannot be established.

However, it relies on viewers to consider this later direct-to-video crossover release canon when most consider Jetsons: The Movie to be the series finale.

A lengthy film reboot has been making the rounds in Hollywood for some time, and Kanye West wanted to be a part of it even earlier.

Other major past theatrical dates that have unsettled people include the Terminator franchise’s Judgment Day, which originally took place on August 29, 1997, though later appearances pushed it back.
