Could one of the Cambridge children become the next great English football star?
According to proud dad Prince William, it definitely can – and now they even have the shirts to back it up.
The Duke of Cambridge was presented with shirts bearing the names and ages of Prince George, 8, Princess Charlotte, 7, and Prince Louis, 4, as he visited the England women’s team to wish them luck for this summer’s Euros to wish.
Thanking the players, he said: “Charlotte wanted me to tell you that she’s really good in goal! She said: “Please tell them that”. Rising star for the future!’
He added that his eldest son George is “very competitive” when it comes to football.
William showed his skills at a training session at St George’s Park, getting the ball past the goalkeeper on his second try.
The future king, president of the Football Association, described the team as “pioneers” after observing some drills on Wednesday.
Speaking at the Burton-upon-Trent base, he told them: “You have a big tournament coming up, it’s exciting and everyone is looking forward to it. They are all pioneers of women’s sport and women’s football.
‘Much luck. You’ll have a lot of crowds, good TV coverage – it’s going to be a great summer, it really is.
“I’ll keep an eye on what you’re doing and watch the games with the kids and I’ll try to come along where I can to support you.
“We’re all so proud of you guys and you should be really proud of where you’ve gotten.
“This is the highlight of the next few weeks for you and I know you will make us all proud.”
The visit came on the final day of the squad as a preliminary group of 28 players before the final 23 for the Euros were announced later in the afternoon.
Skipper Leah Williamson said the Duke’s visit “means a lot to us” and he appeared “genuinely interested in us”.
“We are all very proud to represent England and by extension the Prince and his family. It’s very important to us that we make everyone proud,” she said.
“(He) just has a genuine interest in us and our well-being and how we’re coping with everything.
“How someone so important can make you feel so comfortable and genuinely interested in who you are, I think that says a lot about them.”
William also spent time chatting with England boss Sarina Wiegman and her staff, as well as Sue Campbell, the Football Association’s head of women’s football, and Mark Bullingham, the chief executive.
Ms Campbell said the visit was “a great boost before we go into the tournament”.
She added: “It’s great for the players, great for us. He was very dedicated and really wanted to learn a lot more about women’s football.
“I think he’s really aware of how much women’s football is growing and developing and it’s great for all of us to have him here.”
