Another major update for Genshin Impact is on the way. Despite the game’s recent major expansion, this is another update of impressive magnitude, with plenty for players to enjoy, from new characters to a new event and locations to explore.
Genshin Impact is one of the best PS5 games available and thanks to the cross-save compatibility between PlayStation, PC and mobile, it’s great for anyone who enjoys playing great Android RPGs. Here’s everything you need to know about Genshin Impact Update 3.1.
Genshin Impact 3.1: Sumeru is expanding with the desert
Genshin Impact Update 3.1 expands on the recently introduced Sumeru region that was added in Genshin Impact Update 3.0. Throughout the vast desert, players will find a variety of new challenges to overcome and treasures to collect. Players can also continue Sumeru’s Archon Quest, which continues in this update when the Fatui Harbingers, Il Dottore, and Scaramouche appear. You can check out the trailer for Genshin Impact Update 3.1 below:
In the desert, players will find King Deshret’s mausoleum, which holds underground secrets. The rewards for exploring this vast tomb are great, but so is the threat posed by the defenses, including robotic enemies led by the Warden Network’s semi-intransient Matrix algorithm. In the meantime, there will be a new boss in the rainforest area called Aeonblight Drake.
The desert also hides the village of Aaru, described as the largest settlement that can be found in the desert. Aaru Village is a source of knowledge for those who seek, as it is home to a number of scholars exiled from other lands.
Throughout the desert, players will find a variety of new creatures finding ways to survive the harsh environment, including the Desert Fox, Quicksand Unagi, Red Vulture, Scarab, Scorpion, and Sumpter Beast.
Genshin Impact 3.1: Vintage Festival brings new fun for the season
Back in Mondstadt, players can take part in the Grape Harvest Festival, an annual event that celebrates all things brewing and wine tasting as the people of the region seek the Anemo-Archon’s recognition for their wines. This special occasion brings with it four unique mini-games for players to try, including one that requires players to manage businesses.
Of course, by participating in this special event, players can earn Festive Fever, which can be redeemed for rewards including a variety of refining materials and the four-star weapon Missive Windspear.
Aside from a region’s drinking, there are the Wind Chaser and Star-Seeker’s Sojourn events, which offer players the chance to earn some special rewards if they can manage wind currents and help a young girl find Future Stars.
The daily login event returns, so observant players who log in regularly can claim some bonuses, including up to 10 intertwined fates.
Everyone who plays should also check their messages as there are loads of rewards including 1,600 Primogems, 4 Fragile Resins and two unique Gadgets, Cloud Retainers Damasked Device and Jumpy Dumpty Party Popper.
Genshin Impact 3.1: technical improvements and advanced features
The miHoYo developers have created a new feature in the form of dynamic terrain deformation. This means as players and the desert’s various creatures move across the sand, they collect and sink in more realistic ways, rather than just showing simple footprints.
The improvements didn’t stop there. While Genshin Impact already supported PS5 DualSense’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, this feature is further enhanced with new vibrations that are triggered when players use Elemental Bursts. There’s also “one more surprise,” though the developers haven’t given any hints as to what that might be.
Genshin Impact 3.1: Three new characters to collect
Genshin Impact’s character roster continues to grow. At least one new character is usually added in an update. While three characters were added in Genshin Impact Update 3.0, with the launch of Genshin Impact Update 3.1 we’ll get another three. Here’s everyone attending the party:
- Candace: Candace is one of King Deshret’s descendants and works to protect the village of Aaru. As a Hydro Polearm user, she can also use her shield to absorb incoming damage, while her desert dweller status is reflected in how she reduces your party’s stamina drain.
- Kyno: As a user of Electro Polearm, Cyno works to spread justice and is adept at scientific matters. Since he deals damage, he is also immune to electric damage. He also knows terrible jokes and is a fan of Genius Invocation, a card game coming in Update 3.3.
- Nilou: Nilou, a five star dancer, is boosted in her swordsmanship and hydro power through her dancing skills. The abilities allow her to deal damage or buff her allies if your party consists only of Dendro and Hydro characters, encouraging experimentation.
Cyno and Candace will be available as Event Wishes in the first half of Genshin Impact Update 3.1, along with a replay for Venti. Nilou will be available in the second half of the update, and she’s paired with a replay for Albedo.
Genshin Impact 3.1: release date
Normally, new updates for Genshin Impact are released every 42 days like clockwork. With the massive expansion of Genshin Impact Update 3.0 launched on August 24th, 2022, we would see Update 3.1 in early October if the developers stuck to the usual 42-day schedule.
Instead, we’re actually seeing a pretty big exception to the rule, and so Genshin Impact Update 3.1 arrives a little early on September 28th, 2022.
Server maintenance to roll out new updates typically begins at 6:00 AM Chinese Standard Time (6:00 PM ET / 3:00 PM PT) and will result in a few hours of downtime. Players are usually compensated at a rate of 60 Primogems for every hour the servers are down, unless some unforeseen issues arise and cause additional maintenance. In this case there will be additional compensation.
