Gary Pallister believes Alejandro Garnacho, James Garner and Hannibal Mejbri are all capable of breaking into Erik ten Hag’s side next season.
The new United boss will be hoping to land a string of signings as he sets about rebuilding a squad that ended the 2021/22 season so dismally in sixth place and without a trophy for the fifth consecutive year.
That squad could be further bolstered by the addition of a handful of young prospects hoping to follow the path recently embarked on by Anthony Elanga to the senior side.
Garner, meanwhile, is scheduled to be judged by ten Hag pre-season in the coming weeks after playing a key role at Nottingham Forest last season as they sealed promotion to the Premier League.
Fellow midfielder Mejbri made two more senior appearances under Ralf Rangnick last season, with both hoping to compete for midfield roles following the departures of Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba and Juan Mata this summer.
17-year-old striker Garnacho has perhaps attracted the most attention. The former Atletico Madrid youngster scored a number of eye-catching goals for United’s youth sides last season and also netted victory in the FA Youth Cup final.
The youngster has also been in superb scoring form this summer, representing Argentina U20 with Pallister predicting he could quickly be promoted to the senior side in the coming months.
“He’s the right age and he’s doing it internationally now,” Pallister told Garnacho Metro.co.uk on behalf of Bookmaker Bonuses.
“He certainly makes a point for himself, you also brought James Garner back from his time at Nottingham Forest, I’m sure he’s the same boat. We also have Hannibal Mejrbri, there are great expectations of him.
“One would like to think that these guys can force themselves into the reckoning. One of the first things, Sir Alex [Ferguson] When he arrived he said: “You will all get a chance, you have to prove to me that you deserve a start or a place in the squad.”
“These guys are inspired by what they did last season. Garner played a role in a promotion team, Hannibal made his debut, Garnacho scored the goal in the FA Youth Cup, now playing for Argentina. They progress and give options to Ten Hag. They will knock on that door.
“The squad needs hunger to be successful. You couldn’t say that about the team last season, there were so many miserable performances when heads went down and there was no real struggle.
“One just wonders how it manifested after the season before when they finished second. There must be a reason for this and it’s up to Erik Ten Hag to find out why it happened.’
