Those conditions got worse in 2015, he said.

“Around 2010, I started getting headaches and pressure in the top of my skull, a few days a week at first,” Ablett Sr. said Herald Sun.

“It then led to depression, anxiety and extreme fatigue. Then, on the advice of doctors, I had numerous scans done to find the cause of the headache and cranial pressure.

“These types of scans couldn’t detect CTE, so in a way it’s a relief to have at least identified the problem.

“Starting in 2015 and almost every day there were signs that things had changed, then about 12 months ago I started getting symptoms that alarmed me enough that I contacted Peter Jess (the former manager of Ablett) who I know about that he’s been a concussion advocate for a number of previous players.

Also Ablett Sr Herald Sun He had applied to the AFL Players’ Association four months ago for financial assistance to deal with the brain damage.

The Herald Sun reported that Ablett senr had been helping deliver meals to those in need in Geelong but had been unable to work for the past few months.

Ablett senr told that Herald Sun He had provided information but had not heard from the AFLPA recently.

Age contacted the AFLPA for comment Saturday night.
