Arsenal’s failure to qualify for the Champions League will tempt Juventus to make a bid for Gabriel Magalhaes.

The Gunners were in pole position to end their opening four games with three games left of the season, but back-to-back defeats to Tottenham and Newcastle gave Antonio Conte’s side an opportunity to overtake their rivals.

Mikel Arteta’s side ended their campaign with a 5-1 win over Everton on Sunday, but it proved a hollow victory after Spurs picked up an equally emphatic win at Carrow Road and secured their place in Europe’s elite club competition.

Without the stimulus of Champions League football, Arsenal could be vulnerable to losing their best players who have drawn admiring looks from elsewhere.

Talks over a new contract for Bukayo Saka could still prove difficult and the England winger’s agent is reportedly already insisting on the inclusion of a release clause in any new contract.

Gabriel, meanwhile, has emerged as the cornerstone of an improved Arsenal defence, forging an impressive partnership with Ben White, last summer’s headline recruit.

The Brazil international has played in 35 consecutive games after missing the first three games of the season and has settled in London following the recent birth of his baby daughter.

However, Juventus are scouting the market for a superior central defense following the departure of veteran defender Giorgio Chiellini.

Reports last week claimed Juventus bosses flew to England for talks with Arsenal and were ready to offer Arthur Melo, who the Gunners tried to sign in January, as part of a deal.

However, according to The Telegraph, Gabriel is happy with Arsenal and will not be pushing to leave this summer, although The Athletic reports Arteta plans to sign a new left centre-half this summer.

William Saliba, meanwhile, is set to return to the club and add additional competition for places despite revealing his desire to stay at Marseille after an impressive loan spell.

Responding to the France international’s comments, Arteta told RMC on Tuesday: “He has to come back. He has the experience and was in the right environment to be competitive with us.

“If he had stayed with us this year where we had a Premier League game every week with Ben White and Gabriel he would not have had half the playing time that he had with Marseille, that’s for sure.

“It wouldn’t have been good for his growth and what he can do next season. William wasn’t there because he wouldn’t have had the playing time to gain experience. That’s it, there’s nothing else.’
