The Gunners have made Jesus one of their top targets for the summer and have held extensive talks with the Brazilian’s agent and City over a potential deal.
But the 25-year-old has attracted interest from Tottenham and Chelsea.
Reports last week claimed Spurs were working behind the scenes to beat Arsenal in signing Jesus.
But according to the Daily Star, Jesus would rather join Arsenal than Tottenham as he would get more starts due to the lack of forwards in Mikel Arteta’s squad.
The report also claims Jesus prefers to remain in the Premier League while Arsenal remain in talks to finalize a deal.
Jesus has just one year left on his contract with City but is keen to leave for even more playing time ahead of Brazil’s World Cup campaign later this year.
Arsenal also have a key advantage over Tottenham as Jesus has previously worked with Arteta at City.
Meanwhile, South American soccer analyst Tim Vickery claims Jesus prefers to play in a broader attacking role rather than going through the middle.
‘What is he? Does he want to play as No. 9 or as a winger? He kind of ran away from being a center forward,” Vickery told talkSPORT.
“I spoke to the Brazil coach not long ago about Gabriel Jesus and he said that after the World Cup he called Gabriel Jesus and asked him, ‘Where do you want to play?’
‘Gabriel Jesus said: ‘I don’t mind’, but the coach said: ‘Obviously it bothers you, you obviously have a preference, what is your preference?’
“And a little embarrassed, Gabriel Jesus said he’d rather play on the flank. This is important for anyone who is going to buy it.
“If it’s Arsenal I know Arteta knows him from Man City but that’s been a while and things are changing.”
