FTR kept AEW careers alive by winning the tag team titles
FTR pinned the Gunns to become the new AEW Tag Team Champions in Long Island’s Dynamite Title vs. Career Main Event.
The match began with Austin and Colten using classic tag team wrestling to knock Cash Wheeler down and keep him away from Dax Harwood. Harwood finally got the hot day and took the action to The Gunns. Harwood and Wheeler traded in and out, eventually hitting the shatter machine, but Colten pulled out the referee to avoid the three-counter.
After a series of false finishes, Austin attempted to disqualify Harwood with a low blow. When that didn’t work, Austin and Colten hit 310s against Yuma on Wheeler to get him out of the ring, and when Harwood went for a diving headbutt, he learned that Colten slipped a belt into the ring and hit him with a close two count .
But ultimately, both Harwood and Wheeler were able to roll up the Gunns, resulting in both wrestlers earning three points.
In January, Harwood discussed Tony Khan allowing the duo to take their time to “sit back, think and decide” where they would sign their next expiring deal.
“By April we will have an answer. I have to consider my health, my family, my creativity and my personal life as to what we’re going to do next. I know what I want to do, but whatever we do, I just want to be respected,” Harwood said at the time, per TJR Wrestling. “I feel like we accomplished something very special in 2022 and a lot of that is thanks to the fans. We deserve to keep building on our legacy for ourselves, but we also owe it to the fans to build on that legacy because they created us over the past year. I’m not sure how long we’ll be gone. It may last until the end of our contract. Our contract expires in April.”
There is no question where the future of FTR lies now, with a clear path forward at AEW.
