Frenkie de Jong would prefer a move from Manchester City over a Manchester United transfer

Reports in Spain on Wednesday night claimed the Dutchman is close to completing a move to Old Trafford, with a deal described as “95% likely”.
Barcelona are tight on cash and De Jong is one of their most valuable but available assets, with the La Liga giants hoping to raise up to £65m from his departure.
Erik ten Hag worked with de Jong at Ajax for 18 months, helping him become one of Europe’s most sought-after midfielders ahead of his move to Barcelona in 2019.
The best United can do this season, however, is a Europa League place According to Athletic, it will be “difficult” to convince De Jong to join the club.
City are seen as a more likely target, with Pep Guardiola keen to sign a replacement for Fernandinho.
The Premier League champions were in contention for De Jong’s signature in 2019 but he opted for Spain instead.
For his part, De Jong is happy at the Camp Nou and feels he can turn his fortunes under Xavi.
Since joining the club, the Dutchman’s position has changed several times and he is regularly substituted in matches on the hour.
Barcelona are strong in midfield but have already agreed a deal to sign Franck Kessie from AC Milan on a free transfer at the end of the season.
That points to an exit for De Jong and it’s likely to be a head-to-head battle between United and City for his signature.
