Frenkie de Jong told Manchester United and Barcelona reportedly want to stay at the Camp Nou this summer.
United have reached an initial agreement with Barcelona for a fee of €65m (£56m) plus surcharges for the Dutch midfielder.
De Jong is Erik ten Hag’s priority target for the summer transfer window, with the new United manager seeing the 25-year-old as a key element of his plans at Old Trafford.
Barcelona had hoped to get a fee approaching €100m (£86.4m) for De Jong as they need the money to fund their summer expenses.
But De Jong could derail Barca’s transfer plans as Sport claim the midfielder has told the Spanish club and United that he has no intention of leaving this summer.
The report claims that De Jong is unhappy with Barca’s attempt to force him out of the club and is determined to stay at the Camp Nou for another season.
In his speech during the post-season international break last month, De Jong made his preference clear.
“I prefer to stay at Barcelona,” de Jong told ESPN.
“Barcelona is just my dream club. Even from a young age. I just said it too. I have never regretted my choice, although I had hoped for more in terms of price than I have achieved so far. But I have never regretted my choice.”
De Jong also denied any contact with Ten Hag, who he played under at Ajax before joining Barcelona for £65million in 2019.
“What I’m saying is there is absolutely no agreement or anything official. There’s no talk of that at the moment,” said the midfielder.
“Not that I know. Or they must not have told me, but I don’t think so.’
