The French Open semi-final between Marin Cilic and Casper Ruud was abandoned after a protester tied herself to the net during the game.

A protester with “We have 1028 days left” written on her T-shirt made her way to Court Philippe Chatrier midway through the third sentence.

The woman knelt by the post and appeared to be fastening a zip tie around her neck to the net.

Play was halted and both players temporarily left the field while security extricated the woman before carrying her away.

The organization Dernière Rénovation seems to have claimed responsibility for the protest.

A tweet from the group claims that “22-year-old Alizée” went to court to “raise awareness of the climate emergency.”

Similar incidents took place during the Premier League football season this year when a protester tied himself to the goal post at a game between Everton and Newcastle United.
