French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin is accused Jurgen Klopp, who contributed to the mayhem of Liverpool supporters during Saturday night’s Champions League final at the Stade de France.

The game was postponed by 36 minutes after thousands of Liverpool supporters were prevented from entering the stadium despite hours in advance.

French police have been heavily criticized for using tear gas against fans, including some children, who posed no threat as they waited to enter their gate outside the grounds.

However, Darmanin has blamed “fraud at an industrial level” for the situation, claiming that 70 per cent of the tickets screened at the Stade de France during the pre-filter stage were fake.

He said during a press conference on Monday that “30,000 to 40,000 Liverpool supporters found themselves at the Stade de France either with fake tickets or without a ticket”.

Darmanin also suggested that Liverpool’s decision to insist on paper tickets for fans contributed to the fakes and criticized Klopp for urging fans to travel to Paris earlier this month even if they didn’t have a ticket for the game .

“The tickets are usually electronic, they have been produced in paper form at Liverpool’s request. The 22,000 English tickets were all paper, which contributed to massive and industrial fraud,” Darmanin said.

“Comparisons to the Olympics and Rugby World Cup seem quite disproportionate to me knowing these events obviously only take place in football with certain English clubs.

“I would like to remind you that France has recently organized many rugby matches and football at a very high level without any problems. This was particularly the case in the final of the Coupe de France.

WHAT JURGEN KLOPP TOLD LIVERPOOL FANS PRIOR TO THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL

“If you don’t get a ticket – I don’t want to invite people to Paris, but this time it’s big enough. I did the last time for Basel [the 2016 Europa League final] and all of Switzerland was like that [face palms] but i think paris is big enough to go there without a ticket and have a good time. Behave yourself, but be in the best of moods.”

“In 2019 the final between Liverpool and Tottenham in Madrid had raised the same issues. A final at Wembley a couple of years ago had exactly the same problems.

“There’s also the Liverpool manager [Klopp] who called on supporters to travel to France even without tickets.

“We ended up with tens of thousands of British supporters, some of whom had followed the rules perfectly. And a small but extremely lively section that urged the authorities.’

Meanwhile, France’s Sport Minister Amelie Oudea-Castera has confirmed that UEFA has been asked to reimburse 2,700 fans who had valid tickets but were unable to get into the stadium.

In an earlier interview on Monday, Ms Oudea-Castera also acknowledged that locals in Saint-Denis had also tried to get past security without tickets.

“What we really have to consider is that what happened first was this mass gathering of British fans of the Liverpool club, with no tickets or with fake tickets,” Oudea-Castera told French radio station RTL.

“When there are so many people at the entrance to the stadium, people will try to enter through the doors of the Stade de France and a certain number of local youth who were present tried to get in by blending in with the crowd. ‘
