Fox News host disappointed in Trump’s ‘Meatball Ron’

Over the weekend, The New York Times claimed that Donald Trump was testing some of his patented child nicknames for one of his likely 2024 beta rivals: Ron DeSantis. As you may recall, the first one he released – “Ron DeSanctimonious” – was widely regarded as none of his better efforts. He could do better. Now he might have: The report said he was considering calling the Florida governor “Meatball Ron.” It’s so mean, even for him, that it angers one of his biggest cheerleaders, who is disappointed that the former president was able to sink so low.
I like meatballs. But that will deter many conservative voters. Not a smart move if it’s true. I hope it isn’t.

“I happen to like meatballs,” Fox News anchor Mark Levin tweeted. “But that will deter many conservative voters. Not a smart move if it’s true. I hope it isn’t.”
If there’s one thing Trump has never done, it’s coming up with offensive nicknames for other Republicans. It’s like calling Marco Rubio “Little Marco”. Or Ted Cruz “Lyin’ Ted”. Or the racist name he gave his former administrative worker Elaine Chao (whose husband still supports him). He certainly didn’t endear himself to GOP voters by being a schoolyard bully. In fact, returning to what worked before could be how he kickstarts a much-needed, much-feared comeback among conservative voters.
Trump has offered a vaguely worded denial of the DeSantis nicknames, despite repeating his first poorly received attempt. But considering how popular “Meatball Ron” has been, even among Trump’s critics, he may well pull it out at his next sprawling rally.
